The Microbiome

Did you know that we have more microbial cells in our bodies than human cells? Microbes are an essential part of our design as humans. All microbes are not our enemy. Many beneficial bacteria and yeast are critical for good health. These good guys are called probiotics.

We can cultivate the good guys by doing the following:

  • Eat food rich in probiotics

  • Avoid ultra processed food that starve the good guys while encouraging the bad guys to thrive.

  • Eat plenty of fiber which act as fuel for probiotics. This fiber is also called prebiotics.

  • Avoid antibiotics unless absolutely necessary for a severe infection.

Examples of probiotic rich food include:

  • Kimchi

  • Sauerkraut

  • Yogurt

  • Kefir

  • Sourdough bread

  • Raw cheese

I challenge all of us to eat probiotic rich food every day.
