When you fast…
Fasting is an essential part of good physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Why?
Fasting helps our body to detox. Prolonged periods without eatiing (at least 18 hours) encourages our cells to find and destroy cells or parts within cells that are malfunctioning. Fasting challenges our metabolism to switch from burning glucose as fuel to burning fat as fuel.
Fasting helps to refine our soul because it exercises our self-control. The more we practice telling our impulses “no”, the more discipline that we will have in everyday life and decisions.
Fasting helps us spiritually. Jesus said in Matthew 6:17 “But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
When we fast, our Father in Heaven rewards us physically, mentally, and spiritually.
