The healing of motion
Our bodies were created to move. We were not created to sit behind a computer for 12 hours day.
The more we sit, the faster we age. We must get up and move.
While setting aside a focused period of time to do physical activity like brisk walking or weightlifting is important, we must incorporate movement throughout the day. I challenge myself to limit sitting to 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, I must get up, walk around, and stretch. Prolonged sitting is bad for our cardiovascular health, leading to excess weight and high blood pressure, and it is terrible for our musculoskeletal system, leading to chronic neck and back pain.
When we move, we naturally lubricate our joints encouraging synovial fluid to flow through our joints preventing our cartilage from breaking down.
When we move, we raise our heart rate, preventing fluid from pooling in our legs, effectively pumping blood back up to the heart,
When we move, we give our brains a break from a task and give our eyes a break from a screen, allowing our minds to flow with more ideas and creativity.
Let’s get moving!
